Snowfall 'could call for rodent control'
10/02/2010
Rodent control may need to be tightened during heavy snowfall, as it is thought to help the vermin in certain ways.
According to the Canadian Press, gardens in particular can be damaged by the pests as a result of snowfall.
"Given free rein, rodents will gnaw at young bark [and] even chomp on those tender carrots awaiting harvest from soft ground," the writer explained.
Mice will also stand a better chance of invasion because cats and preying birds are less likely to be able to catch them.
There is less on the ground for the creatures to nibble on so they may turn to plants and trees, it was noted.
Furthermore, the critters are more likely to find their way into homes when the weather is cold outside.
Head of Confused.com Darren Black warned UK householders last month that rats and mice could be entering their homes.
Mr Black explained that the rodents will head indoors in search of warmth.
