Rat-infested eatery goes to desperate lengths to keep customers

The Safi Tix noodle bar in North End, Croydon was found to have a rat and cockroach infestation in September of this year.

Croydon Council health inspectors found a rotting rat in the washing-up section alongside mice and rat droppings in bags of rice. They also found filthy, grease-covered walls and floors.

Owner Lalbaz Safi and manager Fung Tiang Lim were found guilty of violating food hygiene regulations earlier this year and customers were told that a new manager and staff had been appointed.

It is now claiming it is under new management in a bid to keep its customers, but an investigation carried out by a local newspaper has revealed that the original owner is still in place at the eatery.

Khiyalbaz Khan claims he bought the noodle bar from its former owner. “I bought the shop from him and have been running it since October 12 and Mr Lim just comes by to say hello.

“The main problem I have now are with the kids causing me trouble, putting up pictures of the cockroaches on the windows and the buffet,” he said.

Croydon Council health inspectors are now applying for a prohibition order to prevent Safi from running the eatery and it faces possible closure on 26 November.
