Rat droppings found at London restaurant
10/02/2010
Rat control in a London restaurant was evidently insufficient, after customers spotted the vermin on the premises.
Lords Indian Restaurant in Bloomsbury has since been closed by Camden Council.
Officers used their powers to immediately shut-down the premises following the complaints.
Furthermore, "large amounts of rat droppings" were discovered by inspectors in the kitchen and restaurant.
Councillor Chris Knight said the council has no qualms about immediately enforcing its powers to close down any premises that risk public health.
The owner of the restaurant must now pay £500 in costs.
Camden Council explains that pests are potentially hazardous to public health and can grow in number during certain weather conditions.
Last month officers from Glasgow Council used similar powers to immediately close down a takeaway where rodents were discovered.
The Chicken Ranch takeaway was visited by officers, who discovered that food had been contaminated by the rats on the premises.
It was closed down that evening by an emergency prohibition notice.
