Dental practice closed following rodent infestation

A Southsea dental surgery has been forced to close following sightings of a large number of mice in the building.

Mice were spotted running riot in the building late last week and the practice in Victoria Road North was forced to cancel or rearrange more than one hundred appointments as a result.

The local council sent in its pest control team to get rid of the mouse infestation and clean and sterilise the surgery – something which is especially important due to the large amount of medical equipment stored in the building.

It is believed that the practice will open again sometime during the next week. A spokeswoman for NHS Portsmouth said, “The property will be fully sterilised and cleaned before it opens its doors to patients again.

“The Environmental Health Service from Portsmouth City Council are heavily involved in the situation and will check the surgery to make sure it is sterile and safe before patients are allowed in for treatment,” she added.

The NHS spokeswoman also said that she was keen to keep patients in the loop about the situation but did not want to raise their hopes prematurely.
